Be Part of the HERO Legacy!
Volunteers are the key to our success! They help change the lives of adults and their children in the Brownsville area. YOU can be the person that opens the door to literacy for an adult new reader. More than half of the instructors are trained volunteers, and volunteers perform much of the office work at the Center.
Brownsville Literacy Center has many ways for you to be involved with the organization. From programs to special events, we are always looking for quality volunteers who will assist us in promoting literacy and the mission of the organization. If you are interested in volunteering, please fill out the form below to provide more details about your interests and availability.
Whenever it's convenient: Mornings, afternoons or evenings...
Whatever your interest: Reading, writing, ESL...
Whoever touches your heart: Children, adults...
There is a volunteer opportunity that is just right for you. It’s easy!
We provide the training, the books and the location for tutoring and ongoing support. You do not need to be a certified teacher; you do not need to speak a foreign language. All you need is 2 to 4 hours per week and a compassionate heart. For volunteers who do not wish to tutor, we have other opportunities such as helping with office work, assisting with special events and volunteer fairs or working with our Family Literacy Project or Mobile Learning Lab.
