Beginning Literacy classes serve students who are non-literate or semi-literate in their native language. Instruction builds basic pre-literacy skills like holding writing instruments, recognizing letters, shapes and numbers, writing names, addresses, etc. Instruction requires six hours of class time per week.
English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) classes serve students who are literate in their native language (Spanish for most students) and who wish to become literate in English. A multitude of levels of instruction help students build competency in all four areas of language development: speaking, reading, listening comprehension and writing.
Instruction requires six hours of class time per week and usually lasts about three months, per session. We normally hold registrations during the months of September, January and May.
Along with a small registration fee, registrants must present a picture ID at the time of registration. All registrants must live in Texas in order to qualify. Proof of address will be required.
